U.S FORCES CLASH WITH ISIS The United States And Iraq Team Up To Fight Isis

75th Rangers Arriving To a Mission Location

The Pressing Question: Will This Operation Prove Why Iraq Needs The U.S Military?

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces and Iraqi Security Forces teamed up for a raid in Western Iraq early on August 29, leading to the deaths of 15 ISIS fighters. The ISIS group had many weapons, grenades, and explosive "suicide" belts. Thankfully, no civilians were hurt.

The operation aimed to take out ISIS leaders to weaken their ability to plan and carry out attacks against Iraqi civilians, as well as U.S. citizens, allies, and partners in the region and beyond.

During the raid, 7 soldiers from the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment were injured. Two of them were flown to a military medical facility in the area for further treatment, but all are in stable condition.

Afghan Women Protesting

  • Last week, the Taliban introduced new laws to prevent "vice" and promote "virtue" in Afghanistan. One of these rules says that women must cover their faces, bodies, and even their voices when they are outside their homes. These laws have led to widespread criticism, with many people accusing the Taliban of trying to remove women from public life and giving too much power to the Vice and Virtue Ministry. The Taliban, however, deny these accusations.

Women in Afghanistan have taken to the streets to protest and sing, sharing videos of their actions online. This has become a major topic of debate, especially regarding how the Taliban will impose their version of laws and what rights women will lose under their control.

ELON IGNORES COURT ORDERS AND BRAZIL REACTS

Brazil Suspends X

X started to go offline across Brazil on Saturday after the country’s Supreme Court blocked the social network. The court took this action because Elon Musk, the owner of X, refused to follow court orders to suspend certain accounts.

Musk shut down X's office in Brazil last week after Justice Moraes threatened to arrest people for not removing X accounts that were said to break Brazilian laws. X argued that Justice Moraes’s secret orders were illegal and planned to make them public. “Free speech is the foundation of democracy, and an unelected judge in Brazil is destroying it for political reasons,” Mr. Musk said on Friday.

In an unusual decision, Justice Moraes also warned that anyone in Brazil who tries to use X through a virtual private network (VPN) could be fined nearly $9,000 a day.
